Make Time For You!

The last months of the year are always my favourite, I love nothing more than feeling festive and creating the perfect cosy home. However with the festivities and the fireworks comes a lot of planning and pressure to get everything right.

I’m not sure about you, but if you’re anything like me you find these months the most stressful. We take on a lot of pressure and expectations to make sure everything is organised and runs smoothly. It can be overwhelmingexhausting and often we don’t take a day or even an hour for ourselves.

I’m sure you all have your own family traditions, last year it was our first Christmas in our own house, so we wanted to create some of our own! I decided I was going to invite everyone round for Christmas Eve. My Aunty has everyone Christmas Day (I’ll never know how her and my mum managed cooking a lunch for so many people, I don’t think I’d sleep for weeks in the run up if I had too!). Everyone had a lovely evening but I found myself running around like a headless Chicken. I was on edge all evening making sure everyone had what they needed and I really struggled to relax. I’d seen Zoella create this cheese board around a week before and decided I was going to have something similar. Well I must have spent a fortune on cheese, there was every kind known on this board.

When I look back on it now, I’ve realised it didn’t matter what cheese I had, what mattered was I had my whole family around me and we were creating new traditions. So this Christmas I’m going to try and go with the flow a bit more and try not to put myself under too much pressure (a lot easier said than done!).

This Christmas whenever it’s all getting a little overwhelming I’m going to try some of these things:

  • Run a bubble bath and pick up a good book (I’d highly recommend Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, The Girl Before by JP Delaney or anything by Sophie Kinsella)
  • Go for a country walk (I love getting my wellies on and listening to some music or a podcastat the moment I’m listening to ‘Loose Lips’ by Anna Williamson and Luisa Zissman. They are hilarious, I highly recommend!)
  • Lighting tonnes of candles and having a gin and tonicprosecco or a cup of tea (we have some gorgeous candle holders or for scented candles my favourite scented treat is the Jo Malone Dark Amber and Ginger Lily candle (although my boyfriend does say it smells like old books!). This time of year though I highly recommend Winter by The White Company, its just soo festive!

This Christmas make sure you make time for YOU!

Lots of love

Sophie x
